Get the Look: Nina Dobrev’s Teen Choice Awards Rope Braid

by Emily L. Foley

Nina Dobrev has amazing hair game, thanks in part to her hairstylist, Riawna Capri of Nine Zero One Salon. Riawna is also responsible for cutting Jennifer Lawrence’s pixie cut heard ’round the world, and she’s also Julianne Hough, Emma Roberts, Hilary Duff, Nikki Reed, Demi Lovato and Jenna Elfman’s hairstylist (to name a few), oh and me! When I was in LA in March, Riawni cut and colored by hair, and gave me the icy blonde I’m rocking and loving now.

But I digress.

Last night, Riawna gave Nina Dobrev a super cool rope braid using KMS California products, and here’s the step-by-step, so you can recreate the look at home.

First, Riawna applied KMS California Free Shape Quick Blow Dry to Nina’s wet hair, and then blew it dry.

Once it was dry, she sprayed KMS California Free Shape 2-in-1 Styling + Finishing spray on big sections of hair at a time, before curling them vertically with a 1-inch curling iron. This created a messy beach wave, which Riawna intensified by flipping over Nina’s hair and saturating it with KMS Hair Play Playable Texture to add to the disheveled texture.

Once that foundation was in place, Riawna began to create the rope braid by separating the hair into three sections and twisting each one clockwise. She then took those twisted sections and braided them counter clockwise to help show-off the distinct texture.

Riawna then loosened the braid and pulled out some loose pieces to frame Nina’s face.

To finish off the look, she sprayed it with KMS Hair Stay Medium Hold Hair Spray to keep it in place.
